I have set up a website using Postnuke and am having one persistant problem
with regards to e-mail. Some e-mail is sent fine some is returned with the
following error:
Reporting-MTA: dns; localhost.localdomain
Arrival-Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 15:42:49 -0400
Final-Recipient: RFC822; anyuser at bellsouth.net
Action: failed
Status: 5.1.3
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 553 localhost.localdomain does not exist
Last-Attempt-Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 15:42:49 -0400
It seems to me the problem is that my server is trying to send mail from
webmaster at localhost.localdomain instead of from the registered domain name.
I have made every possible change I can think of to both system, sendmail,
and apache and the only change I every saw was the localhost.localdomain
would change to the machine name with is Thor so the message above would be
the same execpt rejected from webmaster at Thor. Now some mail does go thru
the only rejects I have seen so far are from Bellsouth. The e-mails that
are sent successfully arrive with a reply address of
webmaster at mydomain.com. Is there a way to force apache or sendmail
whichever is the culprit to not use localhost.localdomain. I have
configured sendmail so that all outbound mail should reflect
user at mydomain.com and have set ServerAdmin in httpd.conf to
webmaster at mydomain.com.
HELP....... anyone!!!!!
