[ale] Access e-mail remotely & from multiple machines

I need to be able to access my e-mail remotely. When on the road, I need to
access e-mail from my laptop. When in the office, I need to access it from
my desktop. I want both the laptop and desktop to be in sync. What solutions
(other than M$ Exchange Server) are others using for this scenario?
