[ale] OT: Computer Rentals

Computer rentals have an incredibly wide range of rates for some reason and I think its
basically who the companies orient themselves towards. Companies that try to win
convention business charge you enough to own the computer after a couple of weeks.
Other companies that provide long term leasing often have returned systems that can be
had for a more reasonable rate but they won't necessarily be the latest or even
configured how you want them.
I have personally had very good luck with an operation near Perimeter Mall called
Perimeter Micro. Joe Bowen is the president and I've done business with them since
1995. I've never found a better rate and their tech support is great. Once I had to build a
test machine that would run an old version of SCO Unix because the client had it
deployed on hundreds of computers and couldn't afford to upgrade (because of labor
costs, not software licenses or I would have insisted on Linux). Unfortunately that version
of SCO wouldn't boot on most newer computers so the guys at Perimeter Micro spent
hours with me trying different controller board/drive combinations until we found
something that worked. That was way beyond the call of duty and they didn't charge me
extra (although they should have).
Give them a call @ 770-393-3936 and tell them I sent you!
