[ale] How do I 'undelete' a file?

In general, there is no concept of "undelete" a file for the filesystems
that unix systems use. If you come from the Windows world where Norton
Utilities has made this a common thing then you need to forget that it
ever existed as of now :)

Making nightly backups so that you can restore is the best way to
protect yourself.
