[ale] Fax Modems

I have an old US robotics fax Modem that I am trying to get to send faxes.
I am using the command line fax script that came with my mandrake distro.
While watching the output from the command line I can see the it connect to
the
fax machine on the other side and communicates with it.  But when it starts
to
send the fax the DTR is dropped.  I also see the "HDLC"  Came up in the ALE
meeting.

I have cut a pasted the last of the out put here.  Any suggestions?  I have
tried
changing the init string with no luck.
