I have found logrotate to be the easiest to configure. Syslog will do it
but I have found the syntax less friendly that logrotate.

Subject: [ale] Log rotation
Can anyone help me with regards to log rotation? I finally have my sftp
server loging file transfers (Switched to SSH-3.1.0) and I have been
trying
to figure out how the logs are rotated out to secure.1, .2, .3 and ect.
but
it doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason. Is there a way to setup
these
up to rotate out by threshold or maybe by time? If I could set these up
to
rotate on a 24 hour period would be best but even on a 12 hour or
perhaps a
6 hour period would be ok.
