	Hmmm...  Funny...  My experience has been just the opposite.
Our old coal-fired, hand-cranked, RS/6000 running AIX 3.x was the
bottom of the heap performance wise, but I expected it to be.  It was
an old OS on an out of date platform.  Unfortunately, AIX 4.x running
on a new RS/6000 with horsepower comparable to (or superior to) our x86
boxes running Linux or Solaris x86 still did not out perform them when
building product (intensive compiling and linking).  It was one hell
of a lot BETTER than it's previous brethren, it just was not superior
to the other systems, in that environment and with that task.

	Now this is VERY true.  It probably depends more heavily on what
you are trying to do than it does on what iron you are running it on
(within reason, of course).
