[ale] pcmcia nic

Well, it's been a while since I had to mess with pcmcia stuff.  I've got 
an old laptop with a 3com Etherlink III card (3c589D).  Has a connector 
with a green led.  When I bring up the pcmcia stuff via init.d the led 
lights and stays lit.  When I start up network services, the led begins 
to blink.  Nothing goes in or out.  Initially it was taking irq 3 and I 
figured it might be a problem with sharing the irq with the serial port, 
so I tried 4 and 7, still no go.  dmesg looks like everything's okay. 
lists io 0x300 as well.

Anyone have any suggestions?  It's an hp omnibook running RH 7.2.
