Check your name resolution.

That means...

   type `hostname` and see what it returns.
   make sure whatever is returned by `hostname` matches the correct IP entry in /etc/hosts.
   if hostname does not match 'carbon.home.cmschill.net', then you want to add 'carbon.home.cmschill.net' as an alias to the IP.
   if you use dns/nis/+/ldap, make sure you have "files" as one of the options after "hosts:" in /etc/nsswitch.conf.
