Excellent Choice.
Perl is a very useful language in the Unix World and you don't need to
know everything about it for it to be useful.
Here is a list of things to do:
1. If you are serious you should pick up a copy of O'Reilly's "Programming
Perl".
2. subscribe to perl tips email at http://learn.perl.org/tips/
3. A good tutorial to get you started (http://www.comp.leeds.ac.uk/Perl/start.html)
4. perldoc is your friend.
5. If you need to write anything more than 10 lines long check out
http://search.cpan.org/ to see if someone has written a module to help
you.
