This White Paper by IBM lists some of the Linux applications that exist
to replace those used by Windows users.  If they can take care of all
of one's needs then you may be a candidate to switch to a Linux system
for one's desktop.

Sell your friends!  Continue the Desktop battle!  Btw, M$ profits are
down about 50%.  Boo hoo.

IBM also supplies a glossary of Linux terms defined in terms of Windows

Of course many common server applications have existed for Linux for
a long time.  These include web hosting, mail serving (even to Windows
networks), routing, DNS, and file serving (even to Windows networks).
