How about the ability to run on many different platforms? Same OS, different
platform. You can tune the hardware for the specific need, but you still have
the same OS.

Also, Linux is very happy with hardware Windows would choke on. This
is primarily low-end machines, but the ability to take an older desktop and
use it for a mail server for a department, or a DNS slave, or a print server,
or whatever, is a powerful argument (you don't have to upgrade the box
to perform these functions).
