It's the version that comes with Redhat 7.1 by default. I think its
2.1.1-2. I don't have wait times like you are describing. The only thing I
wait for is Mozilla and that one's pretty understandable. I don't know how
much memory it's taking up but maybe your paging? Have you checked top
while you were running KDE?

Exactly what version of KDE2 are we referring to. I'm using version 2.1 beta
2
on a Celeron 533 w/128MB ram running RedHat 6.2 and XFree86 4.0.2 to support
the built in intel i180 on board video in this Dell box. I wait
approxiamately
2 seconds to start up a konsole or 1 second for an xterm.
