Well, I have not way to be _sure_, but Gnome runs pretty well, and 
other, more plain wm's run as quickly as always, as far as I can tell.

I expect delays for things like Star Office and (erk) Netscape, but 
simple apps like xterm and kmail shouldn't be significantly slower than 
on earlier versions, should they?  And, I agree, something that would 
show some indication of progress for larger apps would be a big help.
Especially since I often click _again_, thinking I must have missed the 
first time, when there's no apparent response for several seconds.
