GPS is easy. It's the $@#$@# mapping programs that are a $#@$@#.

You can get some GPS stuff like gpsd from mayko.com. They've
even got a mapping program, hugo, but I'm not sure where to get decent
vector maps for it.

If you are looking for a decent mapping program like Delorme
or National Geographic, let me know when you find one. I now personally
have scored a patch in Wine in trying to get Delorme to work under Wine
(they specify the COM1: port slightly peculiar to everyone else,
apparently), but still don't quite have it working the way I want.
($#@%@# install shield BLOWS GOATS!)

Currently I run it under VMWare and it works great. In fact,
just a couple of weeks ago Atlanta was host to the quarterly FIRST
(Forum of Incident Reaction Security Teams) technical colloquium (TC).
For the "pre TC social gathering" on the Sunday before the meetings, I
picked up a gang of people in my rusty (three tone - Dark Blue, Light Blue
and Rust) old Dodge Van (da Bus) at the hotel and had my laptop running
Linux and VMWare and Delorme with a GPS sitting on a computer table in
the van. The van is ugly as a homemade sin, but carries quite a group.

The reactions from the uber securty geeks from around the world?

	1) "Oooo... Can I have your van?"

	2) "Uh, can I hack?"

	:-)

All I really needed, then, was the 802.11 WaveLAN antenna from my
Saturn on the Van and start running WaveLAN and we would have never gotten
to the restaurant. :-)
