Microsoft announces shared-source strategy

Microsoft said on Wednesday it will share the source code for its newest
development tools with hand-picked customers and business partners.
The software giant said it has enlisted Corel to build shared-source
code versions of the
software giant's C# and Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) development
tools, key to
Microsoft's .Net software-as-a-service strategy. Microsoft advocates
"shared source" code,
where the company offers its source code under license to select
customers, versus
"open source" approaches where source code is freely available.....

.Net to support Linux?

Is Microsoft preparing to port part of its .Net platform to Linux (news
- web sites)? Beta
testers and developers think so, saying there is growing evidence that
the Redmond-based
software giant may well ship a smaller version of its .Net common
language runtime on
operating systems other than Windows, including Linux and Unix (news -
web sites).
