[ale] Kernel Compile Error (2.4)

Trying to compile a 2.4 kernel for my laptop, it gets most of the way
through but errors out with:

tools/build -b bbootsect bsetup compressed/bvmlinux.out CURRENT >
bzImage
Root device is (3, 2)
bbootsect: Non-Minix header
make[1]: *** [bzImage] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot'
make: *** [bzImage] Error 2

I have no idea what this means - can anyone out there help me out?
