The C libraries have to be pretty up-to-date -- I know at least the
stock glibc 2.1.3 has some problems with the 64-bit fd operations, but
it does support them if the kernel can take it. I suspect that's partly
why RedHat went with glibc2.2 for RH7.

How does samba's configure determine is large files are kosher?
