Well, I just stumbled over something called gocr.  It appears to work
better than my last attempt at ocr.  Not bad really, although it took a
very long time. It missed a number of characters, but the doc was not
very clean either. I'm going to try something that's been freshly
printed and see how it does.  Anyone interested, let me know and I'll
forward info on my results.
