[ale] Kernel 2.4.x and FTP

I recently upgraded a computer that was running kernel 2.2.18 to kernel 2.4.3.  Prior to that, the FTP client worked just fine.  Since installing 2.4.3, I can use the FTP client.

I obviously missed something when I compiled the kernel.  Any ideas?
