[ale] Where to find chat-group list(s) by subject matter ?

Thanks for responding.

Just installed an irc client but don't know where there are
comprehensive lists of groups [hopefully by subject matter] worth
exploring.

A search on yahoo [guess I did it wrong] turned up nothing of value.
