i agree...i hope that someday, all operating systems will use journaling
filesystems.
i have a combination of linux and windows 2000 machines at home (with the
linux machines using reiserfs), and i've experienced no data loss, even
though i have no UPSes and the power goes out with a strong gust of wind in
paulding county.

You don't need to worry about ReiserFS too much.  I have used it very
successfully on my laptop for months now.  The machine rarely has a
power connection problem that kills it dead (I think the battery gets a
loose connection when I pick it up wrong).  Anyway, the file system has
never burped on me.  Also, I never wait on fsck to check the drive.
Boy, that is a really nice feature of journaling filesystems.  Any file
system that runs the drive sounds good to me though, as my budget says
uses any drive you've got!  I am still using a 100MB drive from 1992
that is running strong so far.  When XFS finally gets to us from SGI, I
would imagine that it would improve performance.  They have lots of
specialized prediction algorithms that improve data retrieval.  Good
