[ale] Parrallel HP 1600c?

I'm finishing up a Proxy Server and Samba server for a school.  They have
a Parrallel port HP1600C sitting on the side they'd like to share out
and have the Samba server do the spooling for.  This is a school lab
and the printer has very limited memory and appears to drop alot of
print jobs when used as a ipx (network) printer.  Will setting this
up under samba actually help?  I think so but want to make sure.  What
is the best printfilter package for this system, running Debian Potato.
