We are recruiting someone for as manager for our Scientific Visualization
laboratory. While traditionally an SGI facility, we are expanding
the resource to include support for higher end graphics applications
on Linux and NT platforms across our campus. The person in this
position will have the opportunity to build that support function and
work with many interesting people across our campus.

POSITION POSTING
MANAGER, SCIENTIFIC VISUALIZATION LABORATORY
This position will coordinate the resources of the Scientific Visualization
laboratory, including the use of primary application tools within the
laboratory and management of the Graduate Research Assistants that are
dedicated to this initiative. This position will report directly to the
Director of the Educational Technologies Directorate within the Office of
Information Technology (OIT).
This position will dedicate a portion of (his/her)efforts to the promotion
and growth of the lab and to the establishment of a distributed support
model that targets the changing market in high-end visualization and
graphics development. Those goals will include assessing the need for
campus-wide support in popular visualization tools (TecPlot, Matlab,
SigmaPlot, Origin)
This person will also schedule and teach seminars, coordinate demos and
lead brown-bags on various topics in visualization including but not
liminted to the use of Open Visualization Data Explorer, IRIS Explorer,
AVS/Express, IDL, PV-WAVE.
Additional duties will include:
-- acting as a liaison with faculty members and researchers in order to
assist them with the performance of advanced visualization tasks.
This assistance may take the form of training and/or collaboration of
research.
-- Work closely with teaching faculty in enabling a visualization
component to the academic mission of the institute.
-- Work with the Center for Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL)
to assist faculty in developing visualizations for online courseware
and/or presentations.
-- Maintain a state-of-the-art environment inclduing the aquistiion of
current hardware and software for the laboratory.
Desirable Experience includes:
The above mentioned software packages
Visualization
OpenGL programming. (OpenGL will provide a basis for understanding the
tools mentioned above and will allow the Manager to develop non-credit
courses in OpenGL programming in the form of multi-afternoon hands-on
seminars, for which there is demonstrated interest need on campus.)
REQUIREMENTS: MS, or Ph.D. in Biological or Physical Sciences, Engineering,
Science or related field. 0-3 years experience. Ability to conduct research,
and experience in some combination of computational mathematics, biomedical,
physical sciences, or engineering. Experience with visualization equipment
