[ale] Ctrl-Alt-F7 doesn't work

I've been watching this one for awhile now...

1. CTRL+ALT+F7 wont do anything on any X system by default, tty7 is used
   for X, so...if you're in X and press CTRL+ALT+F7 nothing will happen
   anyway.

2. I believe we are seeking a solution for a VMWare configuration problem.
   Try changing your VMWare settings to a different key combo. I think X
   is trapping the sequence before VMWare gets a chance. CTRL+ALT+F9
   sounds like a winner to me. Of course you might try turning off the
   suspend option in the bios, that sounds like it could be a pain anyway.
