[ale] Connecting through a Spring PCS???

Has anyone tried/succeeded to connect to the internet or in general
just use their modem in Linux with a Sprint PCS. My wife bought me
a new Sprint PCS phone along with the kit (it looks simply like a
serial cable) required to use the PCS from one's laptop modem, and
ALAS, the kit came with a CD containing a dialer program supporting
MS Windows only. When I called sprint to see if this program was
absolutely necessary (not merely just a dialer) in order to use
the PCS hardware with my laptop (Inspiron 7500) modem they said
yes and also said that it wouldn't work with Linux. So I thought,
before I give up and return this Christmas present from my wife,
that I would check if anyone else has tried this successfully.
Searching the web wasn't very fruitful.
