[ale] sendmail -mindspring-ISP ignorance

I believe I have everything working. I am writing from memory. I will double check this evening. It only took 32 tries this time....

1. sendmail.cf is modified by having the domain line entry as: DJjohnsplace.com
2. sendmail.cf is modified by having the "smart" hosts entry as: DSmail.mindspring.com

my /etc/mail/access file has mindspring.com	RELAY #I am not sure this entry is relevant...
my resolv.conf file has domain mindspring.com #I probably should have this as johnsplace
search mindspring.com #artifact from dial on demand from my
									# intel machine.

I get error messages in /var/log/maillog complaining about can't find the full name for my host, using the short name.....
Messages are queued and sent to mindspring or anywhere else.

I suspect I am on thin ice on how I set up the domain name. Netscape mail only works if I have mindspring.com in the resolv.conf file as the domain. I guess the sendmail.cf file is pumping different information regarding domain to the mail server so that mindspring will mail to mindspring.com.

I am ignorant but life is good.

Thanks for the help from previous posts. They were a great help.

John

sendmail.cf modified byDSmail.mindspring.com and Djjohnsplace.com as the domain.

this is inaccurate.

smtp.mindspring.com is actually just an alias for mail.mindspring.com
smtp points to the same servers plus additional machines.

It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more money. And I guess
that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back
and forth, wanting that money.
