[ale] plague of "core dumps"

Greetings !

I am getting netscape/KDE window manager core dumps with the following
circumstances:

1-floating point exception
  core dumped

2-can't open audio device
  audio server failed connecting
  waiting for window mgr [KDE]
  PID didn't get read <- error msg sequentially repeated 10 times 
  exited on signal 11 -> window mgr dumped core

Guidance to resolution appreciated,
