[ale] repost ... weird permissions prob

Sorry for the repost ya'll.

This is really irritating. I am still reading my manuals looking for the answer
but I cant seem to find the problem. Apparently none of my user accounts can
use any of the apps associated with the 'net. I have created new user accounts
with varying gid's  and nothing seems to help. The root account has no problem
with any of them. Any help is appreciated.
