Well, TurboLinux installed correctly. More or less. A few CD-ROM related
issues, but nothing too critical.
I then decided I wanted Red Hat 6.0 instead.
Bad move.
It installed all the packages correctly, but then decided to probe for a
mouse (as if I couldn't have told it that I have a Synaptics PS/2
2-button touchpad). That locked up the keyboard. To recover the
keyboard, I had to suspend and resume the laptop (resets the controller,
I guess). That wreaks havoc with non-APM kernels, which, by Murphy's
Law, includes the Red Hat installation kernel. The rest of the
installation, including the bootloader installation, failed.
I like how TurboLinux installs LILO *BEFORE* it messes with the hardware
:)
My laptop is now unbootable via hard drive, will not boot El Torrito
CD-ROM's, and I don't have a floppy drive... Aieeeee!
If anyone is in the vicinity of Georgia Tech and has a Dell laptop
floppy drive they'd be wiling to let me use, please give me a call at
404-206-1834. I just need one for about 15 minutes to get a bootable
copy of Red Hat on there.

Thanks!
