[ale] Why can't I print?

I have 3 machines, dogbert, ratbert and wally. Wally is my lpd server.
in /etc/hosts.lpd I have the following:

{0}:wally:/etc>cat hosts.lpd
dogbert.rnd-consulting.com
dogbert
ratbert.rnd-consulting.com
ratbert

/etc/hosts.equiv is the same. If I try to print from either ratbert or
dogbert though I get permission denied in my messages file. If I do a
"who" on wally, it does show me ssh'd in from the correct, fully qualified
name.

My printcap on ratbert is:
treekiller|lp:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sh:\
        :rm=wally:\
        :rp=treekiller:

My printcap on ratbert is:
lp|treekiller:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sh:\
        :lp=/dev/lp0:\
        :if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:
