[ale] failed to set default fon5t path 'unix/:-1' HELP

booted my redhat6.0 machine today, and the Xwindows
interface failed to start.

I am getting this error message:

_FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
failed to set default font path 'unix/:-1'
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
-----

Does anyone have a clue as to what my problem might
be?  Any comments appreciated,
