[ale] text becomes distorted and scrolls off screen at an angle <-huh !

I am set up under XF86_Mach64 ->  4mb  bpp=24 sw_cursor  Extended SVGA
800x600 640x420

This occurs under an Xserver and netscape.

Any help would be most appreciated.
