[ale] Ga Tech's FTP server status

Being the newbie that I am:
The problem I ran into didn't occur until I had changed the machines name
from localhost.localdomain. When I first installed on this machine, I didn't
have a name for the machine so I didn't give it one. The prompt on my
command line was set to the machine name (it said localhost). When I dialed
in, it would change to something like what you gave me below
(ie.user-38lcac4). At that point everything seemed to work fine.

When I figured out how to change the name and local domain, I did (hey the
prompt looked cooler). I changed it to heilein.maninspace. The next time I
dialed in, I got an error while using Netscape that said something to the
effect of "heilein.maninspace not found in DNS". I was told that this had to
do with the reverse lookup.

My question is what did I do wrong? Where should I go from here? etc?

Thanx
Steve

Just because Mindspring is giving you a dynamic IP address doesn't mean it
will not appear in the DNS tables.

     user-38lcac4.dialup.mindspring.com = 209.86.41.132

The headers in the original message showed that lilElvis at smyrnacable.net
sent the email from a host named 24-216-30-23.hsacorp.net

I can't do an nslookup on 24-216-30-23.hsacorp.net. Your ISP must put it's
dialup IP addresses in a DNS table. If they don't you'll have this problem.

I believe that is why GaTech's FTP is rejecting his connection via TCP
Wrapper's paranoid option.

My $.02,
Stan
