[ale] NFS-client, real slow <--why ?

Is it slow when, say, telnetting as well?  I associate what you're describing
with a TCP/IP misconfig.  I got that kind of behavior from my two-machine
apartment LAN when the Linux machine's eth0 had multicast enabled (other
machine is Win95).  Turned off multicast, all was well again.
