Hi there Dow, 

	#1 and #3 shouldn't be terribly hard for you.  as for #4, I had a
yamaha soundcard on an old computer that I could never get to work
correctly with kernel drivers.  Even when I got it working, it sounded
terrible.  OSS worked well on it and I never had the chance to try alsa on
it.  I am not sure about #2, but I will look at the laptop page and see if
I can help you out.  I am typing this on an almost identical laptop.
