Did you try ssh'ing to/from fully qualified hostnames? I *do* know that
authorized_keys keeps an entry for machines on a name basis. Thus, "dogbert"'s
entry is different from "dogbert.rnd-consulting.com"'s. I've had exactly this
problem with one of my machines (brightstar.gt.ed.net). Though *I* like to
call it "brightstar.gt.ed.net", and it's got a valid DNS address, ssh
recognizes the machine as "medept17.coon.gatech.edu". Thus, I had to make sure
that an entry for "medept17.coon.gatech.edu" was in my authorized_keys. Perhaps
that's what you're running into?
