[ale] Winmodem useless or usable?

about a week until wiser heads prevail.

Basically, there is no way no how you're going to see a driver for winmodems
any time soon.  Specs aren't available, and most of the people who could do
something more difficult like reverse-engineer it aren't going to do so.  
The $20 bucks extra you spend for a real modem versus a winmodem is worth
the reduced CPU usage of a real modem.
