COMMENTS: Responsibilities: Maintain, administer and support
Linux and Solaris systems, in particular Linuxcare's
production servers and network environment.
Maintain, diagnose and debug Unix-based servers and
network equipment while coordinating efforts with
database administrators. Perform light-duty
scripting/development work, including compiling custom
Linux kernels. Work closely with the Linuxcare
Technical Support, Web Development and Engineering
teams, and conduct education/training of other
associates within Linuxcare. Regular on-call coverage
duties and pager response is mandatory and essential.
Requirements: 3-5 years systems administration
experience. Strong hands-on troubleshooting and
diagnostic skills. Strong Linux or *BSD or Solaris
expertise. Diversified technology skill set, enabling
the candidate to be a "utility player" participating
in projects crossing functional areas. Ability to
successfully drive simultaneous deliverables. Eagerly
and openly participates in and facilitates an
atmosphere of teamwork. People-oriented self-starter
with a strong customer-service ethic. Strong written
and verbal communication skills. Willingness to travel
to Linuxcare branch offices, sometimes for extended
periods of time, to complete special projects.
