[ale] offtopic: Q2-Mouse: First you have it, then you don't

OK,
  I'm hoping someone here will have a fix or atleast be able to tell me
what's broken.

  Quake2 in standard soft mode, I have mouse control.  If I either start
GL mode, or switch to GL mode, the mouse ceases to be useful.  It is 
completely missing.  If I switch back to "soft" mode I get mouse back.

  I have mouse with gpm of course.  Anyone got any ideas?
