[ale] kernel upgrade

I've been avoiding upgrading since Redhat 5.0 seems to have a lot of bugs.  My
current kernel is 2.0.30 so I don't think your suggestion will work.

How do you update your kernel anyway?  I've recompiled my kernel but I've never
downloaded any kernels.  Are they precompiled binaries or do I need to compile
them?  Thanks.
