[ale] redhat rpm's -- confused

hi, i am running RH 5.0 -- trying to install the rpm's that will 
upgrade my glibc.

i dwonloaded (from redhat) the following rpm's:

glibc-2.0.7-13.i386.rpm
glibc-debug-2.0.7-13.i386.rpm
glibc-devel-2.0.7-13.i386.rpm
glibc-profile-2.0.7-13.i386.rpm

- what are the 'debug', 'devel', and 'profile' ones for ? 

- do i need them for just getting my java to work ? 

as an aside, i see that they have rpm's for ncurses:
ncurses-1.9.9e-8.i386.rpm
ncurses-devel-1.9.9e-8.i386.rpm

- what is the deal with that ?
