Maybe you guys are already aware of this, but since I've seen people on
this list discuss Road Runner, so I thought you might be interested:
Microsoft Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. said they would each invest
$213 million for 10
percent stakes in Road Runner, the high-speed cable-modem
joint venture of Time Warner
Inc., New York City, and MediaOne Group Inc., Englewood,
Colo. Under the deal, Microsoft
will provide software for Road Runner, and Compaq will
use its retail distribution network to
market the service through a tie-in with its own consumer
PCs. The appeal of Road Runner,
which now has 90 000 subscribers, is based partly on the
high speed of cable modems in
delivering World Wide Web pages, along with video and
audio clips.
