.xinitrc should do it.

Source RPM. With SRPM, you get the pristine source tarball, together with
a configuration script and any patches needed to compile the source all
cpio'd together in a .src.rpm file. You can build the srpm, or "install"
it, edit the config, possibly add some other patches, maybe replace the
source tarball with a later one, etc., then install it, and still be
protected by RPM.

You need to mount your win95 drives as type vfat, not fat. I don't
remember if RedHat 4.0 includes a vfat module in the kernel or not. If
not, you'll have to compile a new kernel, but you should do that anyway to
avoid the Ping O' Death and other assorted bugs fixed by the Latest and
Greatest (current stable release is 2.0.28).

Go to the Afterstep home page, download the latest release (1.0-pre2, last
time I was there), and compile it. You can get RPMs/SRPMs for an older
version (0.98pl18 or something like that) at RedHat. If you're feeling
adventuresome, you could try to upgrade those to the current release. If
you're in a hurry, like I was, just do it the tarball way....
