I've quested for a "nice" vi style hex editor too.

Best I've found is:

Very old and I pitched the src: xvi  (hex vi) nobody maintained this barely usable tool.

I have just a coff Intel binary (that will run nicely on your SCO box): bpatch
never had the src.

Another author's work; fm (file modifier.  This guy was not very inventive) I have this
src: fm-2.02-ss-9.01.tar.gz

I can uuencode and email any of the above.
