[ale] 2 PCI nics in linux box

I have a computer I'd like two nics in.  I have read the mini-howto 
on doing and followed the instructions but when i boot the compute
both network interface cards show up as eth0. 

I'm using kernel ver 2.0.18 any ideas would be appreciated.
