Sounds like you have the Sony CDU31A, which is directly supported by
Linux. One of the installation boot disks should be configured for it
already. Look in disk 1 /distribu/slacXXXX. (There's two; you want the one
that's not the disk sets A,B,C,...) Follow installation directions that
came in the Infomagic pamphlet.
If the boot and root disks boot correctly, but without the cdrom, you may
have to give it a hint. When the boot disk comes up, when you're supposed
to type ramdisk, instead type something like:
ramdisk cdu31a=0x340,11,1
where the numbers are the port, interrupt and other info which is
described in the cdrom-HOWTO.
What kind of card is your cdrom drive hooked up to? It may matter. I
could not get a Logitech SoundMan Wave card with SCSI to work but it was
configured via DOS instead of by jumpers...
