These changes are clearly being felt at ALE.<\/p>\n<p>How can ALE continue to be relevant in a walled garden world of<br \/>\nFacebook and Hangouts and Meetups? Should the walled garden<br \/>\nbe viewed as a new conquest?<\/p>\n<p>Linux no longer has to struggle for recognition or relevance. ALE<br \/>\nhas been part of the pointy end of the stick that has forced the<br \/>\nchanges where Linux is now seen as not just a means to a cost<br \/>\neffective end but an essential element in all phases of electronic life.<\/p>\n<p>Except for the desktop.<\/p>\n<p>Apple is increasingly viewed as a viable desktop for schools and<br \/>\npersonal use. They are making the push into business desktop uses<br \/>\nas well. Is this a good thing for the continued freedoms, and<br \/>\nresponsibilities, that Linux systems offer?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Join in the discussion of ALE future and Linux changes. Please<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> bring a laptop, tablet or pen and paper. The meeting focus is not<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>just what can be done, but more importantly _who_ is going to<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> be doing it. The room seats 30.
