\nOur ALE Central Meeting presentation for
\nThursday, August 9th, 7:30pm will be:

\n“Invisible Ballots vs Open Voting:
\nThe Challenge of Exposing Computerized
\nElection Fraud”
\n<\/font>
\na Documentary Screening and Discussion
\nmoderated by Aaron Ruscetta in association
\nwith Defenders of Democracy <\/strong><\/p>\n

Synopsis:
\n. \u00c2\u00a0 The presentation will use segments from the documentary
\n“Invisible Ballots” as discussion points for the various technical
\nand ethical concerns surrounding the electronic voting issues.
\n. \u00c2\u00a0 Special focus will be given to Georgia’s corrupting influence
\nas the first State to allow a private corporation to monopolize
\nits entire public election process using costly, proprietary
\ncomputer voting systems that, by design, provide no public
\nmeans of exposing software failures or election fraud.
\n. \u00c2\u00a0 For contrast and comparison, the presentation will consider
\nthe options in legitimate and transparent election processes,
\nexamining the importance of Open Source system software
\nand the work of the Open Voting Consortium, a group that
\nhelped motivate the recent University of California “red team”
\ntesting of computer voting systems.<\/p>\n

Bio:
\n. \u00c2\u00a0 Aaron Ruscetta has been a participating member of ALE
\nsince migrating to the Linux platform in 1999. He regularly
\ncontributes to the community as an Event Coordinator and
\nCentral Meeting Moderator. \u00c2\u00a0He has been studying election
\nsystems and voting rights issues extensively since January,
\n2003. As a founding member of the Defenders of Democracy
\nvoter advocacy organization he has presented on the topic of
\nelectronic voting for various events and for numerous groups
\nincluding the Atlanta Freethought Society, Electronic Frontiers
\nGeorgia and the InterZ0ne computer security conference. As
\na volunteer citizen lobbyist he has also provided professional
\ntestimony on voting system issues at State election board
\nmeetings and several Georgia Assembly committee hearings.<\/p>\n
