{"id":52,"date":"2007-06-07T12:25:31","date_gmt":"2007-06-07T16:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ale.org\/new\/2007\/06\/07\/the-supersized-atlanta-linux-install-fest-and-social-forum-support-spectacular\/"},"modified":"2007-06-07T12:25:31","modified_gmt":"2007-06-07T16:25:31","slug":"the-supersized-atlanta-linux-install-fest-and-social-forum-support-spectacular","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ale.org\/?p=52","title":{"rendered":"The Supersized Atlanta Linux Install Fest  and Social Forum Support Spectacular"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\n<font size=\"+1\"> Announcing the<br \/>\nSupersized Atlanta Linux Install Fest<br \/>\nand Social Forum Support Spectacular <\/font> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saturday, June 16th, 10:00am to 6:00pm<br \/>\nat Taylor Letter Service,<br \/>\n385 Northyards Blvd. NW, Atlanta<\/p>\n<p>An Open Source Software project from members of<br \/>\nthe Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts and the USSF Information<br \/>\nand Communications Technology group in support of<br \/>\nthe the U.S. Social Forum event being hosted in Atlanta<br \/>\nfrom June 27th through July 1st!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ussf2007.org\"> http:\/\/www.ussf2007.org <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Please join us for some free treats and beverages and<br \/>\nhelp install GNU\/Linux on over 60 reclaimed computers!<br \/>\nBring your own systems for installation and tech support!<br \/>\nHelp to raise computer literacy on a global scale!<\/p>\n<p>EVENT DETAILS:<br \/>\n   The global community supporting Freedom Friendly Linux<br \/>\nand Open Source Software will have an active presence at this<br \/>\nyear&#8217;s global community conference for promoting Freedom<br \/>\nFriendly ideals of social justice, democracy and civil liberty.<br \/>\nIn keeping with the principles of the Social forum, the vision<br \/>\nof the USSF Information and Communication Technology<br \/>\nteam (ICT) is a free and open source powered infrastructure<br \/>\nto provide Internet access and communications support for<br \/>\nmedia, administrative and public information functions<br \/>\nthroughout the U.S. Social Forum event.<\/p>\n<p>The USSF ICT team is currently on task to prep, install and<br \/>\ndeploy from 60 to 90 reclaimed PIII computers for use as<br \/>\nLinux workstations at the forum&#8217;s main Civic Center venue,<br \/>\nso they are hosting, in association with members of the<br \/>\nAtlanta Linux Enthusiasts and other Georgia Open Source<br \/>\nsoftware groups, The Supersized Linux Install Fest and Social<br \/>\nForum Support Spectacular.<\/p>\n<p>While the support project is the primary focus of the event,<br \/>\nthis will still be a regular Linux Install Fest as well, so everyone<br \/>\nis invited to bring their own systems for installation, trouble<br \/>\nshooting, or just to show off.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone will also be welcome to present their systems for<br \/>\na fast network install of the USSF&#8217;s slightly customized (32bit)<br \/>\nversion of the latest Ubuntu distro. [ For network installs we<br \/>\nare requesting minimum system requirements of a PIII 750mhz<br \/>\nprocessor, 256meg memory, working (bootable) CD rom drive,<br \/>\n10gig hard drive, 10\/100 nic and VGA Graphics support of<br \/>\n1024&#215;768 screen resolutions ].<\/p>\n<p>Many monitors, keyboards and mice will be available for<br \/>\neveryone&#8217;s use.  Some free food and free beverages will be on<br \/>\nhand in keeping with the free software and free thinking of all<br \/>\nthe participants in the Supersized Linux Install Fest and<br \/>\nSocial Forum Support Spectacular!<\/p>\n<p>ALSO PLEASE NOTE that donations or loans of 10\/100 network<br \/>\ndistribution hardware and cabling for use at the forum will be<br \/>\nvery greatly appreciated!<\/p>\n<p>LOCATION DETAILS:<br \/>\nTaylor Letter Service, 385 Northyards Blvd. NW, Atlanta is<br \/>\nlocated near the Georgia Tech Campus and Coca-Cola<br \/>\nheadquarters, just off of North Avenue near it&#8217;s intersection<br \/>\nwith Northside Drive.
